Attempts

Mixed-media installation: oil pastel, hot glue, a glue gun, and personal prescription and OTC medications on canvas prepared with burnt sienna–pigmented gesso.

The borders are made up of all 171 names of trans and gender nonconforming victims of violent crime from 2020 to 2023, based on the annual report by The Human Rights Campaign. The medications were saved for an exit when I was struggling with my mental health around the same time. I was confused about my identity and afraid of this world. This work is my attempt to make peace with my past and to honor those who never had the chance to.
